Tiko celebrates 10 years How Tikondane started
Tikondane Community Centre, known affectionately as Tiko, is a community-based organisation that provide development support, and fights HIV and AIDS in the Katete district, where the organisation is located. Tiko is situated along the Great East Road that connects Lusaka and Chipata, the capital cities of the Republic of Zambia and Eastern province respectively. In the local Chichewa language ‘Tikondane’ means ‘Let us love one another’. Tiko tries to live out this message by bringing together people of diverse cultural backgrounds and stature in life, work and community. Tiko provides development through adult, child and community education, the support of orphans and vulnerable children and families, HIV/AIDS counselling, sports, a village outreach program and various income generating activities. read more
